American Manager, Ivone Silva said, “In difficult times
like these, it is good to be committed to supporting
local non-profits and we are passionate about the work
that Haven From Hunger does for our community. We think
this is one small way we can reinforce the credit union
philosophy of people helping people.”
“Volunteerism takes on an even greater importance in
these tough economic times,” says Alyse Barbash,
Executive Director of Haven From Hunger. “We thank Luso
American Credit Union for supporting our mission to
fight hunger in our community.”
Barbash added, “Anyone struggling financially is welcome
at Haven. Homeless, the unemployed or underemployed,
elderly trying to live on Social Security, families on
welfare, and the working poor who do not have enough
money for food after paying rent or mortgages are
encouraged to come in for a nightly meal.”
About Haven From Hunger
Haven From
Hunger is a privately funded non-profit started in 1986
by several volunteers as a soup kitchen serving an
evening meal two nights a week at the United Methodist
Church of Peabody. Following a fire at the church, Haven
moved to its present location at 71 Wallis Street. Since
its inception, Haven has grown into the largest food
pantry on the North Shore of Massachusetts, serving many
communities. More information is available at
